CODE OF CONDUCT

All members of the COBRA SWIM CLUB (the “Club”) have a duty to uphold the good name of the Club and to act responsibly at all times and places when representing the Club.  Your conduct reflects the degree of respect you have for yourself and others.  It is expected that all Cobra swimmers will conform to the following rules, which are designed to protect your interests, and those of all Cobra athletes.

1.                   Cobra athletes are responsible for their own actions at all times, including but not limited to, training sessions, changeroom activities, meets (travel and hosted), fundraising events, and any activities where there is Cobra participation (i.e. picnics, award’s banquets, etc.).

2.                   Cobra athletes must demonstrate respect for teammates, coaches, parents, competitors, officials, meet volunteers, the general public, and Cobra property at all times.

3.                   Cobra athletes must demonstrate a commitment to their sport by coming to training sessions prepared to work and with their equipment ready.  A full attempt is to be made to arrive on time for each workout (realizing school schedules, weather, etc.) to obtain maximum benefits and avoid distractions to others.

4.                   Dress code: All Cobra athletes are required to wear “Cobra gear” at competitions, as designated annually by the Board of Directors and coaches.  This includes, suits, bathing caps (if used), t-shirts, sweat suits, jerseys, parkas, etc.

(a)                On occasion, when the Club cannot provide necessary attire, coach permission must be given for an alternative, and then only on an interim basis, based on product availability.

5.                   Cobra athletes may not talk back to coaches under any circumstances.  Insolence, rudeness and open challenges will not be tolerated.  If concerns arise, the involved swimmer(s) and coach(es) will have a discussion privately and in an appropriate manner.

6.                   The following activities are unacceptable and are not permitted under any circumstances:

(a)                Harassment:  physical, verbal (oral or written), sexual, psychological abuse, bullying and discrimination on the basis of race, culture, religion, gender, language, disability, sexual orientation or any other attribute;

(b)                Swearing, profane language and rude gesturing;

(c)                Smoking;

(d)                Promiscuity;

(e)                Consumption of alcohol;

(f)                 Theft;

(g)                Willful destruction of property; and

(h)                Use, possession or trafficking of drugs, or any banned substance.  Police intervention may result.

7.                   Codes of behaviour apply when visiting other club facilities, hotels, restaurants, and while travelling in whatever mode of transportation has been selected.  Cobra athletes are not allowed to leave any club facility, hotel, restaurant, etc. without being accompanied by a coach, parent or chaperone, or without specific permission.

8.                   Any athlete willfully causing property damage will be responsible to pay for the full cost of repair and/or replacement.

9.                   In addition to the general Code of Conduct, the Club maintains a supplemental “Travel Code of Conduct” which shall be in force at all travel meets.

The Club’s Code of Conduct promotes a safe learning environment, establishes clear expectations and supports the Club’s Mission Statement.

Disregarding the Code of Conduct may result in suspension from training and/or meet participation at the discretion of the coaching staff.  There will be no adjustment of fees for any loss of training/meet time as a result of a swimmer’s infraction of the Code of Conduct.  In extreme situations, and when agreed to by both the coaching staff and the Cobra Board of Directors, termination of membership may apply.
